Soldier arrested after assaulting Cebu City cop

CEBU CITY--A soldier was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a policeman who tried to arrest him following a commotion in Barangay Tinago here on Sunday night.

Private First Class Dan Bornea, a 29-year-old native of Badian, Cebu, was reportedly drunk when he attacked Patrolman Ronald Paghacian, said Police Capt. Edgar Labe, chief of the Police Station 3.

Bornea, who is assigned to the 503rd Engineering Brigade of the Philippine Army based in Capiz, had gone to Tinago to visit his girlfriend.

While visiting his girlfriend, the soldier had a drinking session with some of his friends in the area.

Police said it was around 11 p.m. when the soldier got into an argument with his drinking buddies.

Paghasian, who was manning a quarantine control point nearby, noticed the commotion.

Police said the soldier was unruly when the policeman tried to pacify him.

The soldier even tried to pin down the policeman, but was overpowered when barangay tanods arrived and helped arrest him.

Police said the soldier will be charged for violating a city ordinance and direct assault.
