New Comelec commissioner nominated

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced today the nomination of Atty. Michael Braganza Peloton as poll commissioner.

"On behalf of the Commission on Elections, I am delighted to welcome Atty. Michael Braganza Peloton to our Comelec family as the newly nominated Commissioner," Comelec Chairman Sheriff Abas said in a statement.

Abas said Peloton is a timely addition to the Commission en banc as his vast experience in the field of law and Information Technology will "highly contribute in our thrust to further improve and revolutionize our electoral processes."

"Commissioner Peloton joins Comelec at an exciting and challenging time, as we have already started preparations for the 2022 national and local elections in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic," Abas added.

"He will complement the existing members of the Commission en banc as we continue to strive to fulfill Comelec mandate in strengthening and advancing our democracy."

According to Abas, Peloton will serve as commissioner until Feb. 2, 2027.

Peloton replaces Commissioner Luie Guia who retired last February.

"Congratulations Commissioner Michael Braganza Peloton, and once again, welcome to our Comelec family!" said Abas.

Guia and Commissioner Al Parreno retired last Feb. 2 after completing their seven-year terms.

Their retirement has left the Comelec en banc with five members -- Abas and Commissioners Rowena Guanzon, Marlon Casquejo, Antonio Kho, and Socorro Inting.
