Education Undersecretary and Spokesperson Annalyn Sevilla, during the virtual “Handang Isip, Handa Bukas” press conference, expressed gratitude to the representatives from various student organizations and parent teacher associations (PTAs) who shared their views on school opening. She also acknowledged their efforts in the implementation of the Basic Education - Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) this School Year (SY) 2020-2021.

During the briefing, the students and parents representatives presented various initiatives in support of DepEd’s BE-LCP and the school opening next month.

Alliah Nicole Sayo,  president of Supreme Student Government (SSG) Ilocos Sur National High School, shared why she is supporting the BE-LCP of DepEd. “This is because there are many options to ensure learning continuity of students,” she said.

Sayo also shared some of the initiatives of the student government such as peer tutoring. “We highly encourage our fellow students to be honest because and if they need help, they can tap the SSG for tutoring,” she added.

Anna Abigail Ticzon,  SSG President of San Pablo City Science Integrated High School, meanwhile cited how the school utilizes social media to raise awareness and connect more with students. “With this, we will stand up and prove that no pandemic hinders us in giving inclusive, empowering and compassionate service,” she added.

Edmund Cardona,  General PTA president of Cauayan City Science and Technology High School, shared concrete steps they are doing to support the BE-LCP. If education is furthered delayed, he believes that this will have a bigger impact on the future of children.

To support the parents in the implementation of distance learning, Atty. Ronald Perez, the president of Federation of PTA in Baguio City, said that “Parent Academy” is being pioneered by the schools division office. This initiative, he said, aims to educate, engage, empower and encourage parents to support their children this school year.

Meanwhile, Ma. Bonnie Coñares-Manlunas, the president of FPTA Antipolo City, also expressed support to the BE-LCP - especially in DepEd’s initiatives against distance cheating.

“The role of the parents is to assert values education at home,” Manlunas, a mother of four said. “If values are instilled and children are raised properly, definitely, cheating will not prosper,” she added.
