Caraga region registers 71 new COVID-19 cases


BUTUAN CITY -  The Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) recorded 71 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Caraga region on Saturday.

The DOH-CHD said these new confirmed cases were based on the receipt of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) confirmatory results from the GeneXpert Reference Laboratory of Butuan Medical Center and Southern Philippines Medical Center. 

Based on its Regional Situation Update, the DOH-CHD Caraga recorded 36 new COVID-19 cases from Butuan City, 14 from Bislig City (Surigao del Sur), Cabadbaran City (Agusan del Norte) six, Carrascal (Surigao del Sur) four, and  one in Tubajon (Dinagat Islands).

The new 36 positive cases in Butuan City were in the following barangays: 7 in Baan Kilometer three, 6 in Libertad, 3 each of Bayanihan, Doongan and Villa Kananga, 2 Agusan Pequeno and one each of Ambago, Ampayon, Bancasi, Basag, Cabcabon, Dagohoy, Fort Poyohon, Holy Redeemer, Limaha,, Pinamanculan, San Ignacio and San Vicente.

The new cases in Bislig City (Surigao del Sur) by barangay were : 8 Mangagoy, 2 Tabon, and one each of Comawas, Lawigan, Poblacion and San Isidro. 

These new cases in the region were 60 by local transmissions, five with history from an area with local transmission, five locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and one frontliner.

As to the medical status of patients, 11 are asymptomatic, 59 had mild symptoms and 1 severe.

The DOH-CHD Caraga said the asymptomatic cases are strictly being monitored following quarantine protocols, while the symptomatic patients were admitted and managed accordingly.

To date, Caraga region has a total of 973 COVID-19 cases, with 385 active cases, 582 recoveries and 28 deaths.
