Mariah Carey blasted the music scene today, September 18, with a remake of a popular 1980 ballad "Out Here On My Own" which she previewed on Twitter.
The song was originally done by Irene Cara for the musical "Fame."
It peaked at No. 19 on Billboard US Charts. In 1981, Cara performed the song at the Oscars where it was nominated for Best Original Song.
In her tweet, Carey called the song the soundtrack of her life.
"The fact that I believed I could become a successful artist is one of my greatest strengths. Around the same time, my mother entered me in a talent competition in the city, and I sang one of my favorite songs, 'Out Here on My Own," by Irene Cara. I felt 'Out Here on My Own' described my entire life, and I loved singing that way -- singing to reveal a piece of my soul. And I won doing it. At that age. I lived for the movie Fame, and Irene Cara was everything to me," Carey said.
"But 'Out Here on My Own' was such a pure song that touched my heart, and I couldn't believe I won a trophy for singing a song I loved," she said.
"Out Here On My Own" is one of the 32 tracks for her latest album "Rarities" which will be released on October 2.
On September 19, Carey shared on YouTube the official lyric video for the cover song.
Carey said: "OUT HERE ON MY OWN has been one of my favorite songs ever since I was a kid. Listening to it, I always felt like it was written about me. I hope you enjoy my version (which I recorded way back in 2000), available now on THE RARITIES ❤️"
So which version do you prefer? Are you for the remake or the original version?
