BoC conducting inventory on seized gadgets for donation to DepEd for online learning

The Bureau of Customs is conducting an inventory on seized electronic items that can be donated to the Department of Education for this school year’s distanced learning.

Assistant Commissioner Vincent Philip Maronilla said they are now checking all abandoned and seized shipments, including shipments of gadgets that can be donated to the Department of Education and used by learners and teachers for the conduct of online classes this year.

“An inventory has been ordered by the Commissioner of Customs on all items that can be a useful donation to other government institutions during these trying times,” Maronilla said.

“Needless to state part of these are seized or abandoned shipments of gadgets and other electronic items,” he added.

Sen. Imee Marcos had earlier called on the BoC to donate cell phones, tablets, and laptops they confiscated to students who cannot afford to equip themselves with these gadgets for their online learning.

The BoC welcomed Imee's proposal, saying they are already working on it and are looking to hand over the initial batch of gadgets to the Education department before the start of classes in October.

“We thank Sen. Marcos for her valuable suggestion and assure her that the Bureau of Customs is already looking into it. We also undertake to update the office of Sen. Marcos on the developments relating to her suggestion,” Maronilla said.
