"I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world," Madonna said in a press statement.

"Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller-coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision," she added.

No words yet as to who will portray in the lead role. Madonna will co-write with Academy Award winner Diablo Cody, who received critical acclaim for her screenwriting debut film Juno in 2007. Amy Pascal, who developed "A League of Their Own" at Sony Pictures, will collaborate with Madonna as a producer under Universal Films.

The last time Madonna co-wrote and directed a film was in 2011 with "W.E." which tackles the affair between King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson.
