ILIGAN CITY – Seven crewmen of a cargo vessel, which capsized two kilometers from the shores of Barangay Alicomohan, Sugbongcogon, Misamis Oriental, were rescued around 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 15.
Cargo vessel MLJJBA Sea Breeze was reported to be owned by William Himina of San Juan, Surigao City.
Sugbongcogon Municipal Police Station (MPS) Officer-in-Charge Police Capt. Roberto S. Cambi disclosed that the vessel was travelling from Opol town in Misamis Oriental, loaded with 13,500 cases of assorted bottles of San Miguel beer, when strong sea currents and heavy waves hit the vessel and send it keeling over.
The crew managed to abandon the vessel moments before it sank. They were all found floating in the waters off Sitio Mindalama, Purok 6, Barangay Manga in Sugbongcogon town.
The rescued crewmen were identified as Ferdinand Bangcoyo Y Yalogo, 52, boat captain, Nandy Lanzaderas Y Resitas, 55; Furtunato Furcadili, 26; Berden Ilandag, 38; Robert Mondragon, 22; Leo Dorero, 21; and Procopio Spijon, 33.
All of them were undergoing treatment and stress debriefing.
The rescue teams included the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Sugbongcogon, officials of Barangays Poblacion and Alicomohan, Philippine Coastguard of Balingoan, Talisayan and Medina Base, and personnel of Sugbongcogon MPS.
