PNP has new Caraga police chief

The head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) drug enforcement unit was designated as the new Director of the Caraga Regional Police Office (CRPO).

Brig. Gen. Romeo Caramat will replace Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel who is set to retire on September 17.

As head of the PNP’s Drug Enforcement Group, Caramat led operations that led to the confiscation of more or less a ton of shabu, including the operation in Bulacan, which resulted in the confiscation of some 800 kilos of shabu three months ago.

The post vacated by Caramat will be taken over by Brig. Gen. Armando de Leon, who used to be assigned to the Davao region

The reshuffle will take effect on Thursday.

PNP Chief Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, meanwhile, defended his action not to recall the revamp involving some senior officers of the PNP.

Last week, Cascolan placed Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo as head the Police Regional Office 7 currently headed by Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro.

“Sometimes, they have tasks that they need to finish in their stations. We took cognizance of that and we also have to respect that especially if it is very important. Those jobs that they have to do in the field, they cannot just leave it and that is one thing we have considered,” said Cascolan.
