In line with its policy of transparency and accountability, Malacañang has vowed to submit to Congress a monthly report on the implementation of the Bayanihan 2 law until the end of the year.
The Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, signed into law by President Duterte on Friday, allocates ₱165.5 billion to enhance the government's coronavirus response as well as support workers and industries hit hard by the pandemic.
"As the Duterte administration remains committed in the promotion and upholding of accountability and transparency, especially on public expenditure, a monthly report will be duly submitted to the Congress until December, 2020," Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said in a statement Friday.
With the signing of the Bayanihan 2 law, Andanar said the nation is "well on our way" to enhance the country's healthcare system as well as provide assistance to agriculture, tourism, transportation and other sectors affected by the pandemic.
He said the stimulus package plan consists of ₱140 billion-worth of regular appropriations and an additional standby fund of ₱25.5 billion.
The funds will be used to sustain the government's "proactive responses and the inclusion of other sectors’ needs, especially our micros, small, and medium enterprises, as we gradually reopen our economy to bounce back and to achieve our forecasted growths for the coming months and year," Andanar said.
"With Bayanihan 2 in place, we are set to heal and recover as one nation as we continue our fight against COVID-19," he said.
The President earlier asked Congress to pass the second Bayanihan measure after the Bayanihan 1 expired last June. Republic Act No. 11469, also known as the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, gave the President’s additional powers to effectively combat the pandemic, that included providing emergency subsidies to low-income families.
