Western Visayas police seize P64.4-million worth illegal drugs


ILOILO CITY—For the first eight months of the year, units under Police Regional Office (PRO6) have seized an estimated P64.4 million worth of illegal drugs in Western Visayas.

PRO-6 Director Police Brig. Gen. Rene Pamuspusan said Tuesday, September 8, there was no letup in the campaign against drugs even when the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis has diverted the attention of some police units since March.

The P64-million seizure was from 981 anti-drug operations conducted from January to August 2020 in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

The bulk of the seized illegal drugs was shabu (7,141.24 grams).  Police also seized 456.29 grams of marijuana.

PRO-6 Spokesperson Police Lt. Joem Malong said that 1,377 persons were arrested and five were killed in anti-drug operations.

Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) had the biggest contribution in the region’s anti-drug operations.  Police units were able to arrest 607 people in 436 operations.

It is followed by Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) with 382 people arrested in 244 operations.

Meanwhile, PRO-6 is still after 711 remaining drug personalities as identified by the PRO-6’s Regional Intelligence Division.
