Estomo to replace Ferro as Central Visayas police chief

CEBU CITY—A new regional director of the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) will assume his post Wednesday, September 9.

Police Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo has been named as the new PRO 7 director, replacing Police Brig. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro.

Ferro was designated as the new acting director of the Integrated Police Operation Southern Luzon.

Ferro, who served as PRO 7 director for seven months, confirmed his relief when he led the inauguration of the Makatao Firing Range in PC Hills, Barangay Apas here Tuesday, September 8.

Since Ferro took over as PRO 7 director, a massive anti-illegal drug campaign was launched.

In Ferro’s seven-month stay, the PRO 7 seized P414.6-million worth of shabu, and more than P100-million worth of marijuana.

In a virtual press conference, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said he was saddened with Ferro’s relief.

Labella said Ferro played a significant role in the city’s fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

“I consider him as one of the responsible in flattening the curve here in Cebu City,” Labella said.
