Pinoys in Birmingham advised to remain vigilant over stabbing incidents


The Philippine Embassy in London has advised all Filipinos in Birmingham area to “remain vigilant and take extra precaution” following the series of stabbing incidents last Sunday in which a man was killed and seven others were wounded.

The Embassy said it did not receive information that any Filipino citizen has been harmed in these where a male suspect launched a string of knife attacks spanning about 90 minutes across the center of Birmingham, the second-largest city in the United Kingdom.

“We advise all Filipino citizens in the area to remain vigilant and take extra precautions until the situation normalizes,” the Philippine Embassy said.

The Embassy assured Filipinos in Birmingham of its readiness to extend assistance if needed.

The Birmingham police announced the arrest of a 27-year-old man on suspicion of murder and seven counts of attempted murder following Sunday’s stabbing spree.

Police said a 23-year-old man was killed in the attacks, while a man and a woman, aged 19 and 32, suffered critical injuries. Five other people were also injured and were immediately treated in hospital, with two later being discharged.
