The Department of Education (DepEd) has scheduled various activities honoring teachers on National Teachers' Month this September.
DepEd said that it continuously recognizes the significant role of teachers in educating the Filipino children through the National Teachers’ Month starting Sept. 5 and and ends Oct. 5 with the celebration of National Teachers’ Day (NTD) and World Teachers’ Day (WTD).
On Monday, DepEd will hold a virtual kick off of the NTM to be hosted by DepEd Region 1 (Ilocos). With the theme “Gurong Filipino para sa Batang Filipino,” this year’s NTM stresses the crucial role, commitment, and dedication of teachers in the delivery of education to young Filipinos especially amidst the pandemic.
Just like in the previous years, the NTM celebration also aims to recognize the role of teachers in “developing globally minded citizens, nurturing families, strengthening communities, and building the nation.”
For DepEd, the NTM is a “great avenue” to honor those who are in the teaching profession and to express gratitude for the positive influence of teachers on Filipino students.
Based on the program of activities, the 2020 NTM virtual kick off kickoff will be spearheaded by Education Secretary Leonor Briones, DepEd Undersecretary for External Partnerships Service Tonisito Umali, Metrobank Foundation and National Teachers’ Month Coordinating Council (NTDCC) Co-chairperson Aniceto Sobrepeña, and local DepEd officials.
There will also be a launching and unveiling of the National Teachers’ Month Stamp to be led by Philippine Postal Corp. Postmaster General and CEO Joel Otarra.
Simple tokens of gratitude will be given to teachers by various DepEd partners during the month-long celebration such as discounted rates to numerous services.
