Biñan celebrates National Heroes’ day with flag burning ceremony


BIÑAN City, Laguna - The city government of Biñan commemorated National Heroes’ Day with a flag burning ceremony Monday.

The ceremony, held at the Sentrong Pangkultura ng Biñan, was led by Mayor Arman Dimaguila, together with Members of the City Council and Ms. Fatima Noña Alon of Department of the Interior and Local Government-Biñan.

This is reportedly the first time that the city held a flag burning ceremony.
In his speech, Mayor Dimaguila acknowledged the contribution of frontliners who are considered to be modern-day heroes in the nation's fight against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Burned during the ceremony were faded, worn, and torn Philippine flags collected from various groups, institutions, and individuals in the city. The ashes were buried on the building's front lawn.

According to Section 14 of Republic Act No. 8491 (The Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines), a flag worn out through wear and tear will not be thrown away but solemnly burned to avoid misuse or desecration.
