Senators on Wednesday expressed hope for the recovery of President Duterte from an illness that can lead to cancer.
Duterte on Tuesday revealed that his Barrett’s esophagus condition is worsening and his doctors had warned him that it could progress to Stage 1 cancer.
Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto said he wishes the President well.
Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said the President “should take care of his health.”
Senate President Vicente Sotto III also said he believes the President will be taken good care of by his current partner, Honeylet Avanceña, who is a former nurse.
“He is past 74 years of age. It's not unusual. I'm sure he will be taken cared of properly knowing the medical background of Honeylet,” Sotto said when sought for comment.
Senator Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara also wished the President good health so he can run the country’s affairs efficiently.
“We wish the President good health because the country needs him to be in good shape to face the challenges brought by the COVID-19
(pandemic),” Angara said.
Last week, reports circulated that Duterte sought an emergency medical check up in Singapore but this was debunked by photos and videos released by his former aide, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go.
Even before he started his term, the President has admitted to having a myriad of ailments, including Buerger’s Disease and myasthenia gravis, among others.
However, despite these health issues, Malacañang repeatedly assured that the President is fit enough to perform his duties.
