PDEA seizes P25-M worth of marijuana, 1 suspect arrested

Elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Wednesday arrested a suspect who yielded more than P25 million worth of marijuana in a posh subdivision in Cavite.

The suspect was identified as Arvin Espeña but his cohorts remained at large.

PDEA Director-General Wilkins Villanueva in an interview over GMA News said that  Espeña’s group was one of the “main distribution points’’ of marijuana that use courier shipping services.

He noted the group uses the services of many shipping firms to distribute marijuana.

During the operation, Villanueva said the agents seized seeds and dried marijuana leaves packed inside coffee boxes in the bungalow-type house which was made into a processing and distribution facility.

PDEA Calabarzon Regional Director Jigger Montallana pointed out that the place seemed to be a research and development area since marijuana seeds were planted in some boxes.

Aside from that, Montallana noted there were also seeds that were converted to brownies.

Montellana said millennials and young professionals who frequent bars are usually the clients of this group.

Cavite Police Provincial Director Colonel Marlon Santos noted the suspects “not only supply marijuana to Luzon but also to Visayas and Mindanao’’.

With this development, Montallana urged parents to take extra care of their children and remind them of the ill effects of marijuana.

Montellana stressed that his precaution was made to warn the parents and spare their children from being swayed into this illegal drug activity that is sometimes posted online.
