‘The Batman’ DC FanDome teaser and everything we can see (or not see) in it

From Robert Pattinson’s hairstyle to a new old Batmobile

The first half of the DC FanDome event had the best reveals and announcements we’ve seen so far from DC. That, or we’ve all just been so bored with living in this quarantine age that everything that was announced over the first day of the virtual fan event seemed huge. Well, sure, there’s the highly controversial Snyder cut finally making the cut with a four-hour HBO Max film—that is a pretty big deal.

But the other show stealer is the first teaser of the Batman reboot, which casts Robert Pattinson into the role of the dark knight. Dubbed simply as The Batman, this new installment in the franchise features a younger version of billionaire Bruce Wayne, as he navigates the early years of his vigilante life as the Batman, or as vengeance, as he is seen referring to himself in the trailer.

In any case, here are some things you might have missed in the DC FanDome teaser for The Batman

Fit for Patt. Sure, Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne sports a longer hairstyle that looks like a cross between a ‘90s boyband’s star and an emo-punk-rock band’s vocalist, which can be a bit distracting at first, but nay to naysayers. Playing Gotham’s brooding billionaire is well within the capabilities of Pattinson, who is more than just his Edward Cullen role.

A suit made-to-measure. Speaking of roles that fit, the new Batman suit in this film looks really awesome, with elements that borrow from both the Batfleck and the Arkham video game versions.

The Batmobile with a classic touch. Since the film is set in Bruce’s early Batman days—year two, to be exact—it’ll be interesting to see what kind of tech he has with him, apart from his trust butler Alfred Pennyworth (played by Andy Serkis). The DC FanDome teaser shows him zipping up some stairwell and driving his Batmobile, which looks cool with a classic flair.

Villains, villains everywhere. You can probably guess who the main villain is in this film, and if you’ve been following updates about The Batman, then you know that it’s going to be the Riddler (Paul Dano). And do you see the Riddler in the teaser, although not in his familiar appearance! Also making an appearance is Selina Kyle, played by Zoë Kravitz

Did you catch the Penguin? Speaking of villains, one of the most anticipated roles in this Batman reboot is that of Colin Farrell, who plays Oswald Cobblepot or better known as the Penguin. It was easy to miss his double appearance in the DC FanDome teaser because he doesn’t look like Colin Farrell at all. But The Batman director Matt Reeves has confirmed that it is indeed the Irish actor as Penguin.

Following the success of The Joker, it’s probably safe to assume that this new Batman movie will be dark and brooding and darker still, with some speculating that it will have an R-rating. Speculations aside, what we do know is that The Batman is currently filming, according to Westworld actor Jeffrey Wright, who plays Commissioner Gordon in the reboot. It’s scheduled for release on June 25, 2021.
