Over 3,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Makati City


There are now over 3,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Makati City.

Based on the data of the Makati Health Department (MHD), the city has a total of 3, 242 confirmed cases as of 9 p.m. of August 24, 2020.

Of the total number of confirmed cases, 1, 201 are classified as active cases.

MHD data showed that the village with the most number of confirmed cases is Barangay Pembo, with a total of 262. Next is Barangay Rizal with 248 cases and Barangay Pio Del Pilar with180.

On the other hand, the barangay with the least number of COVID-19 cases in Makati City is Forbes Park with only seven. 

Notably, the recoveries of COVID-19 patients in Makati City remains high, having a total of 1, 893 recovered patients.

MHD said the city has 148 COVID-19 deaths.

Earlier, the local government of Makati announced that it will give traditional Chinese medicine Lianhua Qingwen to about 1, 4000 COVID-19 patients in the city.

The city government said the donated traditional medicines that can help improve the health of the patients or reduce their symptoms. 

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Lianhua Qingwen as a traditional medicine, and not as a treatment to COVID-19.

According to the “pharmacologic category” stated on the FDA-issued certificate of product registration, the Chinese medicine is mainly used for the treatment of “heat-toxin invasion of the lungs, including symptoms such as fever, aversion to cold, muscle soreness, stuffy and runny nose.”
