Cotabato town police chief slain during hot pursuit operation


DAVAO CITY – The chief of police of the Carmen Municipal Police Station in Cotabato province was killed while conducting a hot pursuit operation against suspects involving in the shooting of a foreign national.

Based on the spot report of the Police Regional Office 12 (PRO 12), a male foreign national was killed in a shooting incident around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Sitio Tawan-tawan, Purok 4, Poblacion. The victim was identified as Loveprect Singh Brar, 25 years old, an Indian national, and a resident of Barangay Sudapin, Kidapawan City. 

The police report said Brar was shot dead after being held-up by two unidentified suspects who took his wallet. 

He was rushed to Carmen Municipal Hospital, but was declared dead by the attending physician. 

Responding to the incident, Carmen Municipal Police Chief Maj. Joan Resurreccion led a group of police in a hot pursuit operation against the suspects.

However, during the hot pursuit operation, around 9:45 am, the police report said "an exchange of fire ensued between the responding team and from more
or less five fully armed unidentified suspects that lasted for five minutes”. 

It was during that brief encounter that Resurreccion was hit.

Resurreccion was brought to Carmen Municipal Hospital for treatment but was declared dead by the attending physician.
