Vespa makes riding to work a colorful affair

With the many restrictions on travel, heavy traffic, riding a motorcycle to work is steadily becoming a more reasonable and more enjoyable alternative. Do it in a Vespa and you can also throw riding to work in style into the mix.

Vespa gives aspiring riders a reason to shift to two wheels with these exceptionally-designed scooters.

Racing Sixties

The first pair are part of a special series that pays tribute to the golden age of racing. Called Racing Sixties, it harks back to the time of some of the most legendary gentlemen racers of the 60s and the unmistakable and effortless style of their racing machines. During that decade, riders were fueled by their spirit of independence and autonomy, determinedly choosing their team, the races in which to compete, and even the aesthetics of their vehicle, particularly in terms of colors, graphics and materials.

The colors and graphics used at the time reflected a sense of belonging to one's country of origin. Their designs and color schemes were selected to ensure one's private team had a distinctive and easily recognizable look.

Receiving the Vespa Racing Sixties treatment are its two sporty models, the GTS Super and Sprint. They come in a pairing of simple colors; a choice of Green Bosco (yellow stripes on green), or White Innocenza (red stripes on white). The contrast color is applied in clean graphic lines and on the front tie. Punctuating the liveries are a matte black finish applied to the passenger grab handles and footrests, the front and rear light setting, the silencer cover, the rear-view mirrors, the onboard instrument cluster base and shield trim, as well as the crest on the front mudguard of the Vespa GTS Super.

Also unique to the series are custom touches. For this series only, the classic chrome plated wheels now come in a gold metallic finish. The seats also get a special touch with soft, velvety nubuck, coated in PVC for all weather protection. They're finished with artisan-style stitching reminiscent of that seen on 1960s sports cars.

With the Racing Sixties series, Vespa hopes to offer classic motorsport style, immortalized in its tailor-made approach with specially selected materials with tactile values and a touch of exclusivity in the details. To complete the Racing Sixties look, Vespa also offers a special range of garments and matching helmets.

Sean Wotherspoon edition

Easily the more intriguing of the special editions is the Sean Wotherspoon Primavera. Created in collaboration with American designer, Sean Wotherspoon, the new special edition is a harlequin style scooter featuring an explosion of color.

The Sean Wotherspoon edition draws influence from kaleidoscopic mix and match special editions and art cars like the Volkswagen Golf Harlequin and the Paul Smith Mini Cooper and Vespa. It makes use of a livery of 80s-style color, using yellow, red, dark green and aquamarine in patches throughout the motorcycle. It’s embellished with white inserts on the front tie, and white rims with a Vespa pattern.

The design is completed with chrome finishes for the headlight frame, luggage rack and passenger handle, and black details such as the hand grips and silencer cover. There’s also a red foot board (in the same color as the shock absorber), with blue rubber inserts.

Topping it off is a light brown ribbed velvet saddle. It comes with the artist's tag embroidered on the seat. Behind, a dedicated graphic behind repeats the 'Primavera' name.

The Sean Wotherspoon Primavera comes with an original Vespa top box and rear luggage rack as standard. Vespa also offers a special line of helmet and apparel to match the Wotherspoon edition.

The Vespa Primavera Sean Wotherspoon and Racing Sixties are available at Vespa Philippines authorized dealers.
