Another Cebu mayor tests positive for COVID-19


CEBU CITY—Another mayor in Cebu province tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Michael Angelo Sestoso, mayor of Alcoy town in southern Cebu, became the seventh mayor in the province to contract the highly contagious virus.

According to the town’s public information office, the mayor was in stable condition, and was already in isolation.

The town’s contact tracing team has also identified those, who have had direct contact with the mayor, and have been placed under isolation.

          Other mayors in the province who earlier got infected with COVID-19 were Junard "Ahong" Chan of Lapu-Lapu City, Sun Shimura of Daanbantayan town, Marlon Garcia of Barili town, Danilo Diamante of Tuburan, Lakambini Reluya of San Fernando town and Jose Antonio Pintor of Asturias town.

          As of August 23, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Cebu province has reached 2,470, but only 684 were active cases.

The province has 1,655 recoveries with 131 deaths.
