Fire Insp. Richard Quiboquibo, station commander of the Bangoy Fire Station and Chief of Operations of the Davao City Fire District, said they initially received a report of a "building on fire" on the seventh floor of the school building at around 8:40 p.m.

Quiboquibo said "within three minutes" the responders arrived in the area and proceeded to the rooftop where smoke was seen.

"Upon verification, it was an electrical fire," he said.

Based on their initial information, he said the electrical ignition occurred in the building's air conditioning system on the rooftop.

He said they have coordinated with Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) to turn off the electricity connection in the area.

Quiboquibo explained that an electrical fire occurs either "due to arching or loose connection."

He said this would lead to short circuits and electrical ignition.

The fire was placed under control by 9:40 p.m., and a fire out was declared around 10 pm.

Quiboquibo said the cost of damage was estimated at P30,000. He added that they will still conduct a final investigation this morning.
