Alfonso, Cavite to penalize residents spreading false info about COVID-19


ALFONSO, Cavite - The municipal government of Alfonso has passed a new ordinance that will reprimand and penalize residents spreading false information about the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Anti-False Information Ordinance of the Municipality of Alfonso seeks to stop misinformation passed through text, social media, and other platforms that can impede measures to curb the spread of the virus.

First-time offenders will be reprimanded but the second and third-time offenders will be fined in the amount of P1,000 and P2,500, respectively.

All persons within the territorial jurisdiction of Alfonso are covered by the ordinance.

As of Aug. 21, the municipality has recorded 39 COVID-19 cases.
