Fourteen policemen have died from COVID-19, with the latest fatality in the Philippine National Police recorded on Aug. 12.

Police Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, spokesman of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said 3,098 policemen have tested positive for COVID-19.

Banac said their latest COVID fatality is a 45-year-old member of the Aviation Security Group.

He said the necessary assistance has been extended to the family of the fatality.

Quoting a report from the PNP Health Service, Banac said 2,258 policemen have recovered from the virus.

The PNP has recorded 63 new infections, mostly coming from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) which registered 36.

Banac said that they are monitoring 2,412 suspected cases of COVID-19 and 729 probable cases. They have been advised to quarantine pending the release of their test results.

The PNP has been at the forefront of the enforcement of quarantine rules. Police said most of those who tested positive have been infected in the frontline thru manning checkpoints and conducting community patrol.
