Girl who fell off a bridge in North Cotabato found dead


COTABATO CITY (PNA) – Villagers of Pikit, North Cotabato found on Tuesday, August 18, the body of a 14-year-old girl, who accidentally fell into the Maridagao River from a hanging bridge in Banisilan town last Saturday, August 15.

At least 30 search and rescue workers from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) worked round-the-clock searching for Rosania Pidong, the missing girl from Barangay Macabimban of Carmen town who fell into the river at 4 p.m. on August 15.

The girl was crossing the hanging cable bridge in Barangay Busaon, Banisilan on her way home to adjacent Barangay Macabimban when she accidentally fell into the water.

Her lifeless body was found floating on the same river in Sitio Malintad, Barangay Gokotan, Pikit town situated some 30 kilometers downstream from Carmen.

“I spotted a floating cadaver on the river and called on co-villagers to help me retrieve the body,” Bapa Iso, a village elder told reporters in the vernacular.

He said the cadaver could be hardly recognized because it was already bloated. Relatives have claimed the remains of the girl.
