DOH to deputize medical graduates for COVID response


The Department of Health is looking for medical graduates who can work as deputized physicians to assist in the national government's COVID-19 response.

In a Facebook post, the DOH said the medical graduates will be given special authorization by Health Secretary Francisco Duque II “to be able to perform limited practice of medicine,” as stated in DOH Memorandum No. 2020-0169-A.

The DOH said applicants must pass the following qualifications:

  • A Filipino graduate of a Medical Education program;
  • Completion of one (1) year Post-Graduate Internship program; and
  • Must not have taken the Physician Licensure Examination for three (3) times or more, prior to the application for deputization, or who are yet to take or pass the licensure examinations for physicians.

According to a May 18 press release from the DOH deputized physicians will receive a monthly salary of P38,463.60, inclusive of 20percent premium.

They will also receive a “COVID hazard allowance of P500 per day, special risk allowance, board and lodging, and other benefits provided under R.A. 11469 and other relevant policies, under a contract of service.”

Deputized physicians will be working under the supervision of a licensed physician according to the DOH.

They will not be assigned to “critical care areas, COVID-19 triage/frontline areas, emergency room, or in other areas directly managing COVID-19 cases.”
