15 heavily armed NPAs yield to Army in Bukidnon


BUTUAN CITY – Fifteen New People’s Army (NPA) rebels bolted their camp and surrendered at the headquarters of the Army’s 88th Infantry Battalion (88th IB) in Purok 10, Barangay South Poblacion, Maramag town, Bukidnon province, military reported yesterday.

“These new surrenderers also brought along with them their respective high powered firearms and assorted live ammunitions in giving up themselves to our unit,” said 88th IB Civil Military Operations (CMO) officer Capt. Norven Jay Garcia, on Wednesday.

“They ran away from their camp and voluntarily surrendered to our headquarters at 10 o’clock in the evening on Friday (Aug. 14),” the 88th IB CMO officer said. 

The former rebels (FRs) belonged to Malayag 1 of Guerilla Front Malayag, Sub-Regional Committee 2 of the CPP-NPA North central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) under a certain “Ka Ricky”, who are operating in the areas of Cabanglasan, Bukidnon, Garcia said. 

“They were involved in the recent armed skirmishes against the government forces in the municipality of Cabanglasan for the previous weeks that resulted in a series of losses and debacles of the communist terrorists,” the 88th IB CMO officer claimed.

The FRs brought along with them an M16A1, two Garand Rifles, four Carbine M1 Rifles, six shotguns, a caliber-.45 pistol, a homemade pistol revolver, and several assorted live ammunitions.
