Despite earthquake damage, Masbate port swiftly resumes operation

Despite sustaining damage in some parts, the Cataingan Port in Masbate quickly resumed operations just a few hours after the 6.6 magnitude quake struck the area early Tuesday.

The Philippine Coast Guard said after safety assessment, the Cataingan Port has now resumed its operation.

“Sa kabila nito, ligtas ang lahat ng port personnel, tripulante, at mga mangingisda na nasa pantalan noong maganap ang insidente. Walang ring naitalang aksidente sa karagatan kasabay ng lindol (Despite this, all port personnel, crew, and fishermen, who were at the port when the incident took place, are safe. No one from those who were seaborne at that time was reported injured),” the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard Station–Masbate said Cataingan Port temporarily halted its operation to give way for the conduct of safety assessment.

It was also reported that the earthquake was felt at the Coast Guard Regional Training Center in Masbate where 476 female Coast Guard trainees were staying.

“Walang naitalang casualty sa naganap na insidente (No casualty was reported from the incident),” the Coast Guard said.

After the quake, Coast Guard Station-Masbate formed a deployable response group (DRG) to conduct prompt response operations in Cataingan Port and neighboring places.
