Only 3 Filipinos abroad added to COVID-19 tally -- DFA


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday reported only three new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases among Filipinos abroad, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

No new recoveries and no new fatalities were monitored from the various foreign service posts worldwide. 

The latest DFA tally on the total number of COVID-19 cases involving overseas Filipinos is placed at 9,896. Of the total, 3,329 are undergoing treatment, 5,842 have recovered and 725 died of the coronavirus disease.

On the repatriation of stranded and distressed nationals abroad, the DFA announced that 410 Filipinos from Lebanon are expected to return to the Philippines on Monday, August 17, 2020.

The latest repatriates will include 20 of the 47 Filipinos who were injured in the twin explosions that rocked the Lebanese capital on August 4, 2020. Also onboard are the remains of four OFWs who perished in the blasts.

According to the DFA’s Migrant Affairs Office, the chartered flight, Qatar Airways flight QR 3150, is expected to leave Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport at 11:10 p.m. Sunday and arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) the following day at 1:25 p.m.

The group is the latest batch of repatriates in the series of ongoing repatriations from the country and brings the total number of Filipinos from Lebanon to 1,918.
