15,000 more displaced workers reported


Fifteen thousand more were added to the number of workers who have been displaced nationwide this year.

The Job Displacement Monitoring Report of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) released Monday revealed that as Aug. 9, the number of displaced workers  climbed to 157,705 from 141,958  last Aug. 2.

Of the 157,705 workers displaced from 7,759 establishments, majority came from the National Capital Region (NCR) with 75,178.

This was followed by Calabarzon with 32,421; Central Luzon, 17,368; Central Visayas, 8,788; Cordillera Administrative Region, 5,407; Davao region, 3,906; Northern Mindanao, 3,019; Western Visayas, 2,840; Ilocos region, 2,811; Cagayan Valley, 1,221; Bicol region, 1,143; Eastern Visayas, 1,104; Soccsksargen, 928; Caraga, 775; Mimaropa,  678; and Zamboanga Peninsula with 118.

According to the Labor department, of the more than 7,000 establishments that displaced workers from January 2020 to present, 6,993 reduced workforce while 766 permanently closed.

The 766 firms that reported permanent closure displaced a total of 14,413 workers while the 6,993 companies that retrenched workers affected 143,200 employees. 

In terms of major industry group, most of the displaced workers were under administrative and support service with 36,578; followed by other service activities with 20,689.
