PhilHealth Execom an 'in-house mafia or syndicate', claims resigned official

The whole executive committee of the state-run Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) constitutes an ‘’in-house mafia or syndicate.’’

Thorrsson Montes Keith (Senate of the Philippines / MANILA BULLETIN)

This was openly stated today by Thorrsson Montes Keith, resigned PhilHealth anti-fraud officer, when he appeared before the Senate constituted as a Committee of the Whole that is investigating his allegation that there is a ‘’widespread corruption’’ at Philhealth amid the current coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Asked by Senate President Vicente C. Sotto. presiding officer of the Committee, to state who are members of the PhiHealth “mafia” or “syndicate”,  Keith replied: ‘’lahat sa Execom members.’’

Sotto then asked retired Brigadier General Ricardo Morales to submit to the Committee the list of the members of the PhilHealth executive committee.

Morales had earlier asked the Committee for a closed-door executive session to be able to tell the members his action plan to clean PhilHealth.

Sotto then told Morales that if he would name names in the closed-door session, ‘’I will entertain a motion for an executive session.’’

“But if you want to explain your side, then do it here openly,’’ Sotto said.
