Magnitude-5.8 quake hits parts of Mindanao


DAVAO CITY — A magnitude-5.8 earthquake jolted parts of Mindanao at 2:06 p.m. on Friday with damages in earthquake-hit areas expected, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

In the latest earthquake bulletin, the quake’s epicenter was plotted at 34 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with a depth of 45 kilometers.

Intensity III was felt in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur; Intensity II in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental; Intensity I in cities of Surigao, Cagayan de Oro, Kidapawan, Tupi in South Cotabato, and Malungon and Alabel in Sarangani.

The Phivolcs said aftershocks were expected.
