Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said the pandemic has made it imperative for tourism stakeholders to adopt electronic commerce and contactless transactions.
She made this assertion following the recent release of "Philippine Tourism Survey: Covid-19 Edition" as conducted by Isla Lipana & Co./ PwC Philippines (PwC), wherein 63 percent of tourism players expressed optimism their respective businesses will be back on track by 2021.
“The recommended protocols of the ‘new normal’ encourage contactless transactions, hence, the shift to e-commerce is absolutely necessary for business continuance in the post-COVID world," Puyat said.
The tourism chief emphasized that stakeholders must also rethink their business strategies and use technological advancements to promote the health and safety protocols in the new normal, among primary concern of tourists, according to various DOT-commissioned travel surveys.
“This, coupled with the implementation of industry-wide best practices, will provide clients with excellent service and guarantee a pleasant customer experience,” she added.

Puyat earlier announced that the DOT will provide all accredited establishments free access to SafePass, a digital contact tracing, health declaration, capacity planning, and incident management solution aimed towards making safety protocols simple and easy for all types of organizations.
