PNP chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa said the destruction is set either on August 12 or August 19 in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). The seized illegal drug has an estimated street value of P9.5 billion.

“We will have a full coverage coming from the crime laboratory up to Cavite where the drugs will be destroyed,” said Gamboa.

He cited a Supreme Court ruling on the destruction of confiscated drugs within 72 hours following inspection.

Early this month, Supreme Court Administrator Midas Marquez issued a memorandum reminding all judges in the country to strictly follow the rule.

On Wednesday, the judge and the lawyers for both defense and prosecution inspected more or less 800 kilos of shabu seized in a Bulacan raid last month.

“Next for inspections are more or less 300 kilos of shabu confiscated in Cavite and another 300 kilos of shabu which were seized during an operation in Makati City,” said Gamboa.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has confiscated some 2.2 tons of shabu since October last year—which represents 34 percent of the total of 6.5 tons of shabu seized since July 2016.
