6 places in Cebu City placed under strict lockdown

CEBU CITY—Six areas in the city have been placed under strict lockdown as a measure to prevent the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) from spreading further.

City Mayor Edgardo Labella announced the granular lockdown on Saturday through the issuance of Executive Oder No. 85.

The six areas include Sitio Eyha in Barangay Guadalupe, Balaga Drive to Sitio Cekalco in Barangay Labangon, Tuada Compound in Barangay Tisa, Sitio San Isidro and Abellanosa Compound in Barangay Quiot, and C. Mina Extension in Barangay Mabolo.

The strict lockdown will be in effect for three to 15 days.

“During the said period, contact tracing and swabbing shall be conducted on all identified first level contacts and probable suspect individuals,” said Labella.

Individuals found to be COVID-19 positive will be extracted from the concerned area, and will be brought to a quarantine or medical facility.

The city has recorded 8,567 COVID-19 cases, as of July 24, with 4,847 recoveries and 455 deaths.

Labella added that residents in the locked down areas, including those authorized persons outside residence (APOR), will be prohibited from leaving their residences.

Food packs and other basic necessities will be distributed to the locked down areas.

Barangay control points manned by the police and barangay officials were put up to ensure strict implementation of the lockdown.

“The period of the lockdowns in the areas identified shall only be pursuant to appropriate recommendation by the City Mayor and shall only be carried out upon approval by the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Disease,” the EO read.

Penalties pursuant to existing national laws and local ordinances will be slapped against those caught violating the EO,” said Labella.
