COVID-19 cases among overseas Filipinos grow to 9,239 with over half recoveries


Cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among Filipinos abroad grew to 9,239 with 31 new confirmed cases Saturday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

A total of 23 new recoveries were also reported, taking the total tally of recoveries among overseas Filipinos to 5,410 while six nationals succumbed to the illness, bringing the death toll to 653.

According to the foreign service posts, the new confirmed cases were reported from the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, and the Middle East.

The recovered patients were recorded in countries in Asia and the Pacific and the Middle East while all fatalities were from a country in the Middle East.

“The DFA shall continue to keep track of the status of Filipinos abroad and stands ready to assist and facilitate repatriations, whenever possible,” the department said.

Most of the COVID-19 cases among Filipinos abroad are found in countries in the Middle East with 6,632 while 2,379 of them are undergoing treatment.

At present, Europe has 496 active cases, the Asia Pacific Region has 177, while the Americas has 124.

Most of the fatalities were also reported from the Middle East with 381 deaths.

Meanwhile, the DFA facilitated the repatriation of 555 overseas Filipinos on board two separate flights from the United Arab Emirates Friday night.
