120,000 workers displaced this year -- DOLE


More than 120,000 workers in the private sector have so far been displaced this year, the latest Job Displacement Monitoring Report of the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) revealed Monday.

DoLE said 127,962 workers were displaced nationwide from 5,672 establishments from January to present.

Of the 5,672 establishments, 5,100 reduced workforce while 572 reported permanent closure.

The report said the 572 firms that reported permanent closure displaced a total of 11,875 workers while the 5,100 companies that retrenched workers affected 116,087 employees.

The National Capital Region registered the most number of displaced workers with 52,814 followed by Calabarzon or Region 4-A with 31,254.

The number of displaced workers in other areas -- Central Luzon with 15,524; Central Visayas with 6,747; Cordillera Administrative Region with 5,345; Davao region with 3,906; Northern Mindanao with 2,767; Western Visayas with 2,458; Ilocos region with 1,960; Cagayan Valley with 1,161; Eastern Visayas with 1,084; Socsargen with 860; Bicol region with 840; Caraga with 753; MIMAROPA with 461, and Zamboanga Peninsula with 28.

Most of the displaced workers were from administrative and support service with 32,092; followed by other service activities with 19,408; and the manufacturing sector with 17,787.

Many were also displaced from the accommodation and food service industry with 10,196; financial and insurance activities with 6,036; and information and communication with 6,017.
