Child's group launches 'Heroes from Home'

A child’s group enjoined individuals to take part in raising funds for children whose families are suffering from the impact of COVID-19 in the country.

Starting this July, Save the Children Philippines is looking for volunteers who can make a difference by being heroes for children while staying safe at home.

To help children from low-income families, those with disabilities, and those who face risks of being left out in school by providing innovative learning modalities, the organization has implemented “Project ARAL” (Access to Resources for Alternative Learning) which complements the Basic Education Learning and Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) of the Department of Education (DepEd).

The international child rights organization has launched its latest campaign “Heroes from Home” where everyone is enjoined to help raise funds and give hope to the vulnerable, marginalized, and deprived Filipino children who need healthcare, education, and protection during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Save the Children Philippines Chief Executive Officer Atty. Alberto Muyot said the present health crisis continues to threaten the lives of millions of people globally.

“Filipino children have been suffering from extreme hunger and undernutrition while a significant number of learners may not be able to return to school or take part in online classes as their parents or guardians face loss of income and livelihood,” said Muyot, a former DepEd Undersecretary.

Save the Children Philippines offers an opportunity for people to start their own fundraiser through SimplyGiving.com, an online fundraising site where individuals or groups can donate and help the organization’s COVID-19 response initiatives for children.

Through SimplyGiving.com, cancelled events can be turned into a fundraiser. Birth anniversaries, reunions, and other celebrations can be made more meaningful by donating what could’ve been spent for food, drinks, and gifts.

Individuals, families, friends, and colleagues can pledge an amount for a purpose through SimplyGiving.com for every fun and creative challenges they do and post online.

Save the Children Philippines Ambassador and actress Ria Atayde said the pandemic has opened up opportunities to help even in the comfort of their own homes.

“I signed up to be a Hero from Home because the children need our support now more than ever as they continue to face challenges in these trying times” she explained. “There are still so many children who need our love and support and I really hope that everyone can rise up to the challenge and be a Hero from Home,” she added.

To sign up to be a Hero from Home and help save children’s lives, Save the Children will provide materials to set-up your SimplyGiving page to get started. Emails for inquiries and requests may be sent to [email protected].
