Motorcycle riders have been given until July 19 to assent to the two prescribed barriers approved by the National Task Force Against COVID-19 as designed by the Provincial Government of Bohol and Angkas.
Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar, commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield, believes the grace period should allow motorcycle riders enough time to comply with the directive.
Eleazar added rules on pillion riding will already be fully implemented at Quarantine Control Points on July 20.
“In the meantime, we will continue monitoring and warning those without barriers while citing or apprehending those with other violations,” said Eleazar.
The barrier of the Bohol prototype is to be installed on the motorcycle while the barrier designed by Angkas will be worn by the motorcycle driver.
Eleazar urged all motorcycle riders to strictly follow the approved designs.
Pillion riding was first allowed on July 10 due to public clamor.
An initial set of rules were released by police shortly, including the installation of a barrier between driver and passenger.
The rule also instructed driver and passenger to wear the minimum prescribed personal protective equipment such as face masks and helmets.
The motorcycle riders are also required to present proof they are married or at the very least, living in the same house.
