Filipinos abroad with COVID-19 now total 8,854


Fifty new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases and 17 new fatalities among Filipinos abroad punctuated the latest tally of the Department of Foreign Affairs on Sunday as the total number of confirmed cases now reached 8,854.

The new fatalities, according to the DFA,  were recorded in the Middle East, bringing the total number of deaths among Filipino nationals abroad to 611.

Of the total, 2,959 are live cases while 5,274 have so far recovered from the disease.  

Aside from monitoring the situation of affected Filipinos worldwide, the DFA is also tightly involved in the repatriation of distressed and stranded nationals abroad. 

As of today, it has repatriated over 78,800 overseas Filipinos since the government began its COVID-19 repatriation efforts in February 2020. 

Together with the Philippine embassies, consulates, and attached agencies,  the DFA expressed its full commitment to bringing home Filipinos abroad amid the pandemic.
