Remains of 4 deceased OFWS from Saudi arrive

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. on Friday joined Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III in receiving the repatriated remains of 4 Filipinos who died in Saudi Arabia for various reasons.

“Upon Sec. Bello’s invitation, Sec. Locsin joined other government officials and the families of the deceased this morning in receiving the mortal remains of our compatriots,” the DFA said in a statement.

The DFA expressed its commitment to work with other government agencies such as DOLE and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for the repatriation of the remains of other dead OFWs as soon as possible.

On Thursday, Bello said the remains of 49 Filipinos, including 14 COVID-19 fatalities, will be cremated upon arrival at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

After cremation, the ashes will be turned over to their respective families and relatives.
