Missing fisherman found dead in waters off Negros town


BACOLOD CITY – The body of a fisherman, who was reported missing Tuesday, was retrieved by the authorities from the waters off Barangay 1, Ilog, Negros Occidental Friday.

Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Negros Occidental Head Commander Jansen Benjamin, said that a local fisherman saw the body of an unidentified man floating at sea around 6 a.m., Friday.

Authorities responded and retrieved the body, which was later identified by relatives as the remains of of Isagani Avansenia, 32, of Barangay Bocana.

Benjamin said that there was no sign of injuries inflicted on the victim’s body, which was already bloated when it was discovered.

Avansenia went missing when his motorized boat capsized late Tuesday night after it got entangled with a fishing net.

He went fishing with his elder brother, but the latter survived and was rescued by a passing pumpboat.
