4.3-magnitude quake hits Surigao del Sur


BUTUAN CITY - A 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit Surigao del Sur province in Northeastern Mindanao on early Monday night, July 6, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 6:22 p.m., with the epicenter plotted only 13 kilometers (kms) southeast of Cagwait town, Surigao del Sur province.

The tremor had a depth of 48 kms, Phivolcs said.

The earthquake was tectonic in origin and no aftershock or tsunami alert was raised by the agency.

The Surigao del Sur provincial disaster risk reduction and management council (PDRRMC) there reported no damage or injury.

Meanwhile, at 10:28 p.m. on the same day (July 6), a 3.1-magnitude tectonic earthquake was also registered and its epicenter was traced only 14 kms northwest of nearby Cortes town of that same province, with a depth of 22 kms, Phivols also said, in its bulletin.

No aftershock or tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.  

The PDRRMC of that same province also reported no damage or injury.
