President Trump

VOICE FROM THE SOUTH

President Trump was the right man at the right time. The electorate of the US were hoping for change because of the stagnation of income of the middle class. The upper classes were getting large increases of their incomes.  The one percent at the top of the pyramid were getting all the increases and getting a lot but the working classes were being left behind since the nineteen nineties. Many new millionaires were created. But the incomes of the working classes were stagnant.

That was the signal for a maverick to come in. Donald Trump happened to be the man.  But he blew his opportunity. And together with the management of the pandemic of Covid-19, he blew his opportunity.  Instead he gave special tax breaks to the already rich. Added to this was his concern to be re-elected this 2020 election. He chose not to follow the scientific advisors and delayed the proper reaction to Covid-19.

I find it fascinating to watch someone who is drowning politically. Instead of following his scientific advisers, he chose to follow his own out-of-the-blue ideas. He hoped for the ending of Covid 19 without any scientific reason for its end. He does not wear face masks when in public and in gatherings.  He has identified the wearing of face masks as an anti-Trump manifestation instead of what it is a help to preventing the spread of the virus. He therefore has not asked the general public to wear masks and to practice social distancing. He has been hoping that miracle would happen and Covid-19 would disappear as mysteriously as it appeared. He is trailing his opponent as much as 14 percentage points in the surveys.  We are still five months to Election Day and such surveys may not have any meaning five months from now.  But past experience says that Donald Trump will have to create a miracle just as he did in 2016.

The opponent of President Trump happens to be a Catholic. However he has voted for abortion rights. Accordingly some pastors have refused to give him communion. We don’t know if this is a correct decision. Any priest cannot make this decision. But he has been refused communion.  Will he be strong enough to follow through the needed reforms if he is elected? No one really knows is he will be elected or if he will be strong enough to correct the mistakes inserted by Donald Trump and to correct the problems of the middle class in the economy. To all appearance he seems to be the right man to give the US a new start. He will need the prayers of all to make the experiment of the US get back to its footing. We can only hope for the best for the continuation of such a good opportunity for so many. God bless America.
