Four Davao Oro scholars stranded in Cebu City infected with COVID-19

DAVAO CITY - Four student scholars who were stranded in a school in Cebu City were found positive with coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Provincial Government of Davao de Oro said Wednesday.

In a statement, the provincial government said the four were stranded in Cebu for a long time.

It said they left Cebu City via sea travel on June 16 and arrived in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte the next day. They were among the passengers fetched by two buses that were sponsored by a company, the provincial government said.

Upon their arrival on June 17, the students were placed in the Barangay Isolation Unit  and underwent health risk assessment.

They also underwent a swab test on June 22 but the results came out negative.

However, the Provincial Health Office conducted “re-swabbing” since the four students had direct contact with the 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th patients who were found positive with COVID-19 on June 24.

Based on the profiles of the confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Davao region released by the Department of Health Davao Center for Health Development, there are four male patients aged 19 to 26 years old who are currently admitted in Davao de Oro. All the four patients were from the municipality of Maco.

A 41-year old woman from Barangay Poblacion in Maragusan town, Davao de Oro, who was stranded in Manila since February, was also found positive with COVID-19. The provincial government said the woman was supposed to apply for work abroad but was stranded in Manila due to the pandemic.

The woman left Manila on June 22 and arrived at the Davao International Airport on the same day. She underwent a swab testing on June 29 and her results came out on Wednesday.

Davao de Oro currently has a total of 31 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 26 of which are active cases.
