Daanbantayan, Cebu Mayor Sun Shimura on Sunday announced he also tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement posted on the official Facebook page of the municipality, Shimura confirmed that his test results had returned positive for the virus.

According to Shimura, he attended a conference of the mayors in the capitol in Mandaue City on June 17, after which he experienced cough and fever, prompting him to undergo a swab test.

He said he was first tested using the rapid diagnostic test kit last June 15 after experiencing low-grade fever for two days, but the results turned out negative

Shimura said he had already ordered the disinfection of the entire municipal hall on Monday, June 22, and suspended the operations in the Mayor’s office for one week.

Shimura is the second mayor in Cebu province to have tested positive for the virus.

On Friday, Lapu-Lapu City mayor Junard Ahong Chan announced that he tested positive for COVID-19.
