ILOILO CITY—One of the country’s most wanted was arrested in Iloilo province after almost eight years in hiding.

Valentine Asi Zara was nabbed June 17 in Sta. Barbara town by the Regional Intelligence Units of Police Regional Office (PRO-6) in Western Visayas region and the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) as well as the Sta. Barbara Municipal Police Station.
The 29-year-old Zara has two separate warrants of arrest. One is a September, 2010 warrant of arrest issued by a court in Rosario, Batangas for rape and a January, 2012 warrant of arrest for a homicide case.
PRO-6 acting spokesman Lt. Col. Gilbert Gorero said that Zara moved to Iloilo to evade authorities and even changed his name. Citing records from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Zara had his name changed to Arnel Perez Alegrea on November 25, 2015.
Zara is currently under the custody of the Santa Barbara Municipal Police Station and is facing criminal cases.
