5 arrested for illegal fishing in Ilocos Norte

CAMP JUAN, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte – – Police operatives have arrested five persons caught in the act while conducting illegal fishing along the river in Barangay Maananteng, Solsona, Ilocos Norte on Wednesday.

Police identified the suspects as Melvin Hilario, 34; and Macwain Calucag y Rafanan, 30, both residents of Brgy Talugtog, Solsona; Gilbert Galang y Manuel, 42; Reynaldo Rafanan y Miguel, 44, and Rocky Rafanan Miguel, 32, all residents of Barangay Maananteng, Solsona, Ilocos Norte.

The police said the arrested residents were electrocuting fish using improvised electrocution devices.

Confiscated from the residents were four sets of improvised electrocution device with 12 volts’ battery and four fishnets.

The arrested residents together with the confiscated devices were brought to the police station for documentation.

Police said the residents are facing charges in the prosecution office for violation of PD 704 for illegal fishing.
