Remaining COVID-19 patient in Kidapawan recovers

KIDAPAWAN CITY – The remaining coronavirus virus 2019 (COVID-19) case here has already tested negative for the virus based on the results released on May 22 by the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in Davao City, reports from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) said.

As such, PH3989 was released from the Kidapawan City Quarantine Center, around 5 p.m., on Friday.

PH3989 was one of the cockfighting aficionados who exposed to a COVID-19 patient in Davao City where he attended a meeting at the Matina Gallera last March.

Also in March, PH3989 was among the more than 200 cockfighting aficionados from North Cotabato who were traced by health authorities.

He was placed immediately at the city's isolation facility on March 28, and administered his first swab test for COVID-19, which turned out positive.

His second test result also came out positive.

On May 5, he subjected himself to a third swab test.

But apparently, his sample was lost somewhere in the confusion at the SPMC, which was only able to produce his result on May 22.

In a phone interview, PH3989 said the delay in the release made him anxious, depressed, and mental stress.

He said that on his 47th day of staying in the facility, he staged a hunger strike just to pressure authorities to follow-up his results at the SPMC.
